Iwona Szpak Elevates BC Hydro Employees Through Development Opportunities


Working with her team, Iwona Szpak, a Director in Attraction, Development and Culture at BC Hydro, led her team in developing the Inclusion and Diversity Roadmap. The multi-year strategy guides organizational efforts to create a welcoming workplace for all employees. She supported the implementation of English Pronunciation Training programs and oversaw the roll out of a customized Inclusive Leadership Course. Iwona also oversaw the development of Inclusion and Diversity 101 Training for all employees and currently leads the team supporting the employee resource groups and the signature program, Taking the Stage, for empowering women.

Iwona’s leadership has led to achieving the highest engagement survey results in the company. She is spearheading the transformation of BC Hydro’s culture, and her leader has nominated her for the Inclusive Leadership Award in recognition of her numerous efforts to foster an inclusive and supportive environment. Iwona practices open communication, creates a psychologically safe work environment, and reinforces positive behaviors. To promote team well-being and productivity, she encourages employees to achieve work-life balance and advocates for cross-functional teamwork.
