Kirk Merrett is the Director of Human Resources and Administration for Hyundai Auto Canada. Under his leadership, the company has become a standard bearer for diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices. He has developed talent systems that have led to numerous successes in diversity hires, with 63% of new hires coming from equity-deserving groups. Kirk also developed equitable promotions and pipeline opportunities for women and visible minorities. He implemented numerous employee training programs and initiatives for all employees, addressing issues like unconscious bias, mental health, respect in the workplace, micro-aggressions and more. Kirk also developed more inclusive benefits programs.
The focus of his DEI efforts is the implementation of a strategic plan for genuine change and awareness. To achieve this, Kirk develops partnerships with advocacy organizations like CCDI, Indigenous Link, WXN, and the BlackNorth Initiative. He empowers ERGs to create communities and safe spaces for team members. Kirk drives progress and accountability through goals and metrics. He also supports initiatives for community social impact like Kids Help Phone and specific programs that cater to Black and Indigenous youth.
