Dr. Jackie Scales is the Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at Teck Resources. She continuously works to embed EDI into the cultural shift to the company’s renewed values. Jackie developed a training program that highlights how employee behaviour demonstrate respect and creates psychological safety. She empowers employees to live the values of being courageous and responsible by choosing inclusion and speaking up when they experience or observe disrespect.
Jackie’s approach to meeting the changing needs of employees while maintaining the EDI culture is a step-change strategy in the space of culture, through renewed purpose and values that centre on people and communities. To make EDI learning more accessible, she has championed the development of Inclusion Centres at multiple mine sites, which offer always-on education and counselling support. Focused on gender equity in mining, Jackie has supported Teck to increase steadily increase representation of women in our workforce at all levels. Jackie launched Teck’s first inclusion and engagement survey to give employees a voice and to inform EDI strategy.
